Partners in Education Ethiopia proudly inaugurated Coscos Pre Primary School in Bahir Dar, formerly Addis Amba Pre Primary School, in honor of PiEE founders David and Gina Cosco. Serving 600 children, including 10 children with special needs, the new facility provides safe, inclusive, and child friendly spaces designed to support learning and development. The inauguration marks a meaningful milestone in PiEE’s commitment to expanding quality and inclusive education in Ethiopia.

At Bahir Dar Prison Pre Primary School, 108 preschool children now have access to a safe and vibrant outdoor play space, thanks to support from Leonard Future Fund. PiEE worked with the local community and Bahir Dar prison administration to install quality play equipment, creating new opportunities for children to play, learn, build confidence, and grow. This initiative reflects PiEE’s commitment to ensuring that every child, including those in underserved and overlooked communities, has access to safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.

Six villages in Ayertena Kebele, Bahir Dar, were officially declared Avoidable Blindness Free (ABF) on February 22, 2026, marking the culmination of a four year community driven eye health initiative. Through the screening of 7,675 community members, provision of 1,660 eyeglasses, and strengthened local eye health structures, PiEE and its partners have helped build a healthier and more sustainable future for communities across Bahir Dar.

PiEE, in partnership with Dental Mavericks, launched an oral health initiative across eight partner schools in Bahir Dar. Following dental screenings that identified 78 teeth requiring treatment among 28 students, children are now receiving professional care through local dental clinics, helping relieve pain and supporting healthier, more confident learning.

At just 13, Yabibal’s education was at risk due to cataracts. Thanks to school-based screening and life-changing surgery supported by Partners in Education Ethiopia and partners, his sight and confidence are restored.

On this International Day of Education, we celebrate the voices, ideas, and leadership of young people who are actively shaping inclusive, relevant, and sustainable education. At Partners in Education Ethiopia, we believe in building education with youth, not just for them.

PiEE convened a regional workshop to support the scale-up of the Splash Urban School WASH model across Amhara. With the model already delivering strong results in Bahir Dar, participating zones expressed commitment to join the effort and collaborate on expanding safe, healthy, and child-friendly WASH services. PiEE is proud to help advance this regional momentum.

PiEE delivered a three-day Teacher and Leader Capacity Development training at Biruh Tesfa Primary School, equipping educators with practical strategies in differentiated instruction, collaborative professional culture, and effective PLCs. Teachers applied their learning through hands-on lesson design, with early observations showing strong progress in student-centered practices. The initiative reinforces PiEE’s commitment to empowering educators and strengthening child-focused learning environments.

Partners in Education Ethiopia (PiEE) conducted a Menstrual Health training at Biruh Tesfa Primary School, creating a safe space for dialogue, confidence building, and shared learning among boys and girls. By the end, participants were named Gender Champions—ready to advocate for menstrual health, challenge stigma, and support a more inclusive school community.

Partners in Education Ethiopia delivered a comprehensive WASH training at Biruh Tesfa Primary School, equipping students and school staff with practical hygiene and sanitation skills. Participants explored handwashing, waste reduction, and environmental cleanliness before committing to lead as WASH Ambassadors—promoting healthier habits and helping build a cleaner, safer school environment.
