WASH Training at Biruh Tesfa Primary School
Partners in Education Ethiopia (PiEE) recently delivered a comprehensive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) training at Biruh Tesfa Primary School in Debre Birhan, Amhara Region, on 22 November 2025. The training equipped pre-primary and primary students, teachers, and school leaders with practical skills to create a cleaner, healthier, and more child-friendly school environment.
Participants were introduced to essential concepts of personal hygiene and environmental sanitation, followed by an interactive walk around the school compound where students identified materials that can be reduced, reused, or recycled. They also explored how germs spread and practiced simple, actionable ways to prevent infections highlighted by a joyful and memorable 20-second handwashing routine using counting and songs.
By the end of the session, students, teachers, and school leaders committed to taking ownership of their school’s WASH facilities and to champion hygiene practices among their peers. To support their leadership, participants received WASH Ambassador vests and user-friendly reference materials. Many have already stepped into their roles leading by example, promoting proper handwashing, and inspiring their classmates to adopt healthy daily habits.
This initiative forms part of PiEE’s broader commitment to school health, wellbeing, and quality learning environments—ensuring that every child learns in a clean, safe, and supportive school community.
