Regional Momentum for School WASH Scale-Up in Amhara!
Partners in Education Ethiopia (PiEE) recently convened a high-level regional workshop to advance the scale-up of the Splash International Urban School WASH model across multiple zones in the Amhara Region.
The model already fully implemented and tested in all public schools in Bahir Dar features improved, age-appropriate toilet designs for girls, boys, and KG students; dedicated handwashing and drinking water stations to prevent cross-contamination; reservoir tanks to manage intermittent water supply; and multiple faucets across school compounds to ensure easy access. These infrastructure improvements are supported by strong behavior-change strategies and practical guidelines that have demonstrated clear, transformational results.
During the workshop, participating zones acknowledged the impressive outcomes achieved in Bahir Dar through the partnership between Splash International and PiEE. They expressed strong commitment to join the scale-up effort through match funding and requested PiEE’s support in advocating for future Splash school WASH initiatives in their respective areas.
PiEE is proud to help drive this growing momentum toward safer, healthier, and more dignified school WASH environments for children across Amhara Region.
