A New Dental Unit Opens in Bahir Dar
Sometimes, real impact starts with a simple visit.
It all began when Cally Walker Co-Founder and Director of Dental Mavericks joined us in Bahir Dar from London in November 2025, supporting a school football tournament where we integrated dental health awareness and basic treatment services for students. During her visit, she also took time to see the dental unit at Addis Alem Hospital in Bahir Dar, Amhara Region.
What she found was a facility that was no longer functioning effectively unable to meet the growing dental health needs of the community. At the same time, private dental services remain out of reach for many families. She returned to the UK with a clear commitment: to help change this.
Today, that commitment has become reality.
With Cally's generous support and the partnership of Dental Mavericks, Partners in Education Ethiopia facilitated the training, procurement and installation of a new dental chair and essential consumables. The hospital, in turn, renovated the space and prepared the unit for service.
Today, we celebrate the inauguration of a fully functional dental unit now serving the communities of Bahir Dar and beyond. This is what partnership looks like. This is how real change happens.
When individuals, institutions, and communities come together, we don't just fix problems, we create lasting solutions. In just six days since opening, the dental unit has already served over 100 patients, clearly showing the urgent and unmet demand for affordable dental care in the community.
Our heartfelt thanks to Cally Walker, Dental Mavericks, our dedicated regional team, and the leadership of Addis Alem Hospital for making this possible.
