PiEE and CHAI Launch Bright Eyes Early to Expand Vision Care for Young Children

We’re excited to share that Partners in Education Ethiopia has officially signed a project agreement with Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. in Ethiopia (CHAI) to launch the “Bright Eyes Early” initiative.

This project focuses on something often overlooked but life-changing: early childhood vision.

Across Ethiopia, many young children start school with undetected vision problems. This affects how they learn, play, and connect with the world. Yet, with early screening and simple support like eyeglasses, this can be prevented.

As part of both organizations’ commitment to strengthening school health, this partnership will screen over 90,000 children aged 4–6, provide eyeglasses to those who need them, and build local capacity by training health professionals while raising awareness among families. The project will be implemented in more than 300 pre-primary schools across Gondar, Bahir Dar, and Debre Birhan, with a strong focus on reaching preschool children in temporary learning spaces, including three IDP camps in the Debre Birhan area.

We are also committed to learning from this work and will share the impact and insights along the way, keeping our partners and community engaged throughout the journey.

This is more than a health project, it’s about giving children a fair chance to see, learn, and thrive from the very beginning. We’re proud to partner with CHAI on this important journey.
