Breaking myths, changing lives

In the highlands of Deberework, 30-year-old Mastewal, a mother of two, is proving how knowledge transforms lives. For years, she believed showering during her period caused more bleeding and used a single pad all day, unaware of the health risks. That changed when she joined a Mom-to-Mom discussion group. “I didn’t know pads should be changed every 4–6 hours. Now I do, and I feel fresh, no more odor or infections. This month, I even showered daily during my period for the first time. I’m so happy.”

Thanks to Partners in Education Ethiopia, with support from the Peter Gilgan Foundation and Operation Eyesight, women in rural communities are breaking harmful myths and embracing safe hygiene, one conversation at a time.

The ripple effect has just begun.
