A New Start for Mothers and Newborns
Nitsuh Bantigen, 35, from Gemjabet Town in Guagusa Woreda, Awi Zone of the Amhara Region, recently participated in the Mothers for Mothers training organized by Partners in Education Ethiopia. Following the 11th session held on April 13, 2025, she shared her reflections:
“Before this training, I didn’t realize how essential prenatal and postnatal care truly are. I used to believe that giving birth at home was normal, I never understood the importance of delivering at a health facility with trained professionals. I also didn’t know the value of colostrum, the first breast milk. I used to discard it, unaware of how rich and beneficial it is for a newborn. But now, I know better.
I’m committed to feeding colostrum to my babies and sharing this knowledge with other mothers in my community. I feel a strong responsibility to help first-time and expectant mothers make informed decisions. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who made this training possible, the organizations, the individuals, and the dedicated facilitators who brought this opportunity to us.”
