Transparency and Community at Work in Bahir Dar
On 17 August 2025, Partners in Education Ethiopia (PiEE) hosted a bid opening ceremony for the construction of the new Addis Amba Pre-Primary School in Bahir Dar. Seven shortlisted contractors presented their bids to a large gathering that included community members, as well as representatives of the Bahir Dar City Administration Education Department, Amhara Development Association, and PiEE staff. The open selection process ensures transparency and accountability to all stakeholders, and the active involvement of parents, elders, and local leaders establishes ownership and trust, which in turn fosters the sustainability of the project.
π§π½ The new facility will include 14 well-ventilated classrooms, separate facilities and resources for children with disabilities, as well as WASH facilities (latrines and water stations), new furniture, and a playground. The learning environment will be hugely enhanced over the current situation, where up to 110 children share a classroom built for 30.
π± With the addition of teacher training and various health programs once the school is built, this project is more than just construction, itβs an investment in the future of children in Bahir Dar.
