Misraq Ghion Pre-Primary & Primary School

(formerly Abay Mado First Cycle Elementary School)

Located on the outskirts of Bahir Dar City, Misraq Ghion Pre-Primary & Primary School opened in 2018 to serve 880 students with twelve modern classrooms, a library, pedagogical centre, and dedicated administration space. Built as a two-storey structure to maximize limited land, the school also includes separate latrines for boys and girls and fully applies our holistic education model.

Teachers receive continuous training and weekly mentorship from Partners’s education experts, helping them adopt engaging, student-centred teaching practices. Students needing extra support are paired with volunteers from Bahir Dar University and nearby high schools.

The school’s gardens and trees thrive, maintained by students and teachers, while ongoing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) training has dramatically improved cleanliness and student well-being.

Teachers have been trained in the best teaching practices and are receiving weekly support from Partners’ experts. Children whose standards are below their grade levels are provided personalized support by the school’s teachers and student volunteers from the Bahir Dar University and nearby high schools. Trees and gardens have been planted and are growing prolifically. Ongoing WASH training has made a significant change in the cleanliness of the classrooms and the school’s open spaces.
