Gimjabet High School

Opened in 2018 in Gimjabet town, Ankesha Guagusa Woreda (Awi Zone), Gimjabet High School was built to relieve severe overcrowding at nearby Ankesha Comprehensive High School, which previously served more than 4,600 students. The community contributed 70% of the project cost, reflecting strong local ownership and commitment to education.

The school includes 12 fully furnished classrooms, two science labs, a library, teacher resource centre, IT room, and separate latrines for students and staff, with clean drinking water easily accessible throughout the grounds. Teachers participate in continuous training and classroom mentoring, helping ensure high-quality, student-centred learning.

A new educational gardening program — developed with local agricultural experts, parents, and students — has already begun, and the school will soon be connected to the town’s power grid, enabling access to digital learning tools and technology-supported education.
