Gezehara High School
Before Gezehara High School was built, the nearest secondary school was 17 kilometres away in Addis Kidam. The cost of transportation, accommodation, and food made continuing education impossible for many families, and up to 30% of students — mostly girls — dropped out each year due to financial and safety concerns.
At the invitation of the Gezehara community and five neighbouring villages, Partners helped realize a long-awaited goal: local access to high school education. Construction began in late 2019 and the new school officially opened in September 2021.
Today, Gezehara High School serves approximately 1,200 students from 13 surrounding feeder schools. For many, this is the first time secondary education has been accessible within their community. The school has also opened its doors to older learners who previously lacked the opportunity to continue their studies.
